AS2 Blog 1 – Choosing the track/gaining permission

In this blog I will talk about the track I have chosen and from YouTube and why it is important to ask the permission to use the song and important of not breaking copyright laws. I will show proof that I have contacted the artist and gained permission to use the track.

For my music video, I had many ideas of different songs to choose, however at the end I have chosen the song called ‘Castle’ by an artist called Halsey. This is because in my team we got together and decided to use this song as it has it intrigue us with its lyrics and beat and draws us in to the music and gave us lots if ideas of how to make our music video better while listening to it. So whilst we were in groups we listed to lots of music and different artist and found ‘Castle’ to be the best choice for all of us. This is because out of all the songs we listed to, ‘Castle’ is the easiest way for the actor to mime to the lyrics, which will help us because it will the editing process simpler.  For location, we thought to use the green room to create shots and animates that we were not able to get in where we live as it may be too away for example we wanted a castle to be in the video. However, there are no castle or abandoned places where we live to film it, so came up with the idea of using the green room which is our best choice

But before we could think of the ideas for our music video we had to ask permission to use the song from Halsey. Down below shows the team asking permission to Halsey to use her song in our music video using Twitter. Asking permission to use the song is very important because as if we did not, we would be breaking the copyright act 1988 which will cause a big problem for use as we could have been sued or be taken to court. This is because the song is copyrighted which means that the artist has the rights to know what her song is being used for and by how.
